๐ช Founding engineer and technical lead for EC2 Capacity Planner, the cornerstone of EC2 capacity management. Defined its long-term architecture and guided its evolution into a system that drives global instance size pre-allocation on physical servers, placement strategies, and live migrations for optimal packing. Over six years, enabled sustained fleet utilization gains while ensuring high availability across millions of servers, influencing org-wide scaling strategy.
๐ช Directed the design and rollout of EC2 Flexible Instance, a next-generation default launch framework that balances fleet utilization across diverse instance families. Improved availability during supply shortages and increased average fleet utilization through peak-to-mean optimization, directly shaping EC2 rack ordering strategy to reduce unnecessary server purchases. Built with cross-AZ flexibility and long-term scope for external adoption, positioning it as a foundation for future customer-facing models of resilient fleet management.
๐ช Architected and led EC2 Capacity Block , the default purchasing model for GPU instances (B200, GB200, H200, H100, etc.). Enabled customers to reserve scarce GPU capacity ahead of time, ensuring predictable scaling for large-scale ML workloads. Influenced EC2’s business model by unlocking new revenue streams and providing strategic predictability for high-demand workloads to customers.
